October 2025, Attorneys Eric J. Stockman and Vimala B. Ruszkowski obtained a defense verdict in Waterbury Superior Court after three weeks of evidence. The case involved claims that a second trimester ultrasound was improperly read by the defendant board certified obstetrician and gynecologist as reassuring, resulting in the birth of a child with a neural tube defect called spina bifida. Plaintiff claimed that had she been told that the images did not clear the spine of defects she would have terminated the pregnancy. Defendants argued that the films were read properly and were adequate to clear the spine at that point in the pregnancy. In closing arguments, plaintiff asked for $25 million in damages. After 3 hours of deliberation, the jury returned a defense verdict, finding that there was no violation of the standard of care.
