Attorney Sandy Roussas obtained judgment in New Haven Superior Court on behalf of Connecticut Hospital

02 May

SOC Partner, Sandy Roussas, obtained a judgment in New Haven Superior Court on behalf of a Connecticut Hospital, two trauma surgeons and an anesthesiologist arising out of an emergency blood transfusion administered to the patient and a subsequent emergency exploratory laparotomy. Plaintiff alleged medical battery, claiming that he did not consent to the blood transfusion as it was against his religious beliefs.  He also claimed that he was subjected to an emergency laparotomy and general anesthesia without giving informed consent. Plaintiff was self-represented and demanded damages in the amount of $22 million.  Plaintiff launched a social media campaign against the hospital and Attorney Roussas personally to harass them into a settlement position. Settlement discussions were not entertained, the case was tried to a judge over three days and a final decision from the Court found that plaintiff was treated pursuant to the emergency exception of the informed consent doctrine and that there was no liability on the part of the involved medical providers.  Judgment was entered in their favor.
